Using https://rvm.beginrescueend.com/install/rvm, because that's what it said to use on https://rvm.beginrescueend.com/rvm/install/

# ./rvm-installer --help

Usage

  rvm-installer [options] [action]

Options

  --branch <name>               - Install RVM head, from named branch
  --version <head|latest|x.y.z> - Install RVM version [head|latest|x.y.z]
  --trace                       - used to debug the installer script

Actions

  help - Display CLI help (this output)

# ./rvm-installer --version latest

ERROR: --version must be followed by a vaild version number x.y.z

#

So (a) --help says I can specify --version latest, but it doesn't work;
(b) "valid" mis-spelled in error message.

Thank you for letting me know about this, I've made a note to fix it when I get some time.
