Hi,
I've seen configuration issues involving this error message when
running rake under Mac OS 10, where it seems to be associated with a
bad link.

I've just got the same error, running Ubuntu 9.10.
I have the following packages installed
mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.37, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using
EditLine wrapper
mysql-client version 5.1.37
rails 2.3.5
gem 1.3.5
ruby 1.9.1

full error message is as follows:

steve@default:~/maudit/test$ sudo gem install mysql
[sudo] password for steve:

Gem files will remain installed in /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/
mysql-2.8.1 for inspection.
Results logged to /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/mysql-2.8.1/ext/
mysql_api/gem_make.out

Any ideas?

Cheers
