I have windows vista service pack 2 running on my computer. I just
downloaded ..virtual box 3.2.6 ...and ...virtualrails 1.1.7z...I cant
find my windows xp bootable disc to create a virtual machine to run
virtual rails. The only other disc I have is windows 98. Can I
create a virtual machine and run virtual rails on windows 98? If not
then does anyone advise me on any other options?

you should be able to run this on Windows XP with no problems. you will need to decompress the .7 file to get the .vdi file which is the virtual hard disk. After that follow the directions on the Virtual Rails site, and you should be on your way.

VirtualRails *is* a VM -- that's the whole point :-)

you don't need your Windows XP disk. plus i don't think Virtual Box will run on Windows 98

One more time: you *don't have to create anything*.

Install VirtualBox, use it to start up VirtualRails which is a Linux VM
with various tools installed.

just follow the instructions here http://virtualrails.org/node/3

all you have to do is unpack the .7 file, install virtual box, create the VM and point it to the VM disk which will be wherever you unpacked it, and end with a .vdi extension. Start the VM and you are ready to code

ok so i already downloaded virtual rails.. im assuming the .7 file
must be part of this. i think what i need to do next is to open and
extract virtual rails which is a vdi file... i think this is where im
stuck because i need to find something to extract the vdi file....

Hi Rich,

Thanks everyone to have done my support job while I was at the cinema
(seen Inception, pretty cool indeed ;p) ^^

Rich, I am the one who wrote the "getting started" part of the
virtualrails website
It seems that my instructions are not easy enough to follow, so if you
can take few minutes to help me improve it, it would be a great help !
if you're ok, just write me a quick mail with your feeling about what
is clear, what is not, and what is missing, it would be really
appreciated.
thank you in advance

In fact, everyone's feedback is welcome, don't hesitate : tell me your
virtualrails story :)
