Stay tuned.

We're actively working on performance improvements that will allow us to reenable this.

I'd really like to say this week, but please keep in mind this is all a volunteer effort.

There's lots of info on this thread and an entire hour hangout to watch about what the situation is currently.

Hmm, is there a way to setup a mirror (full or partial) of rubygems for
personal use? Right now, it's almost like the maven repository going down
and having to hunt down specific jar files, except in the case of rails:
manually identify the latest gem versions, gem install and bundle update
--local :(

Is there anything we can do to omit using the Dependency API for now?

It really inhibits me from getting my job done.

Thank you for all the hard work. It's in times of loss that we're reminded of all the hard work you all do.

Thank you.

This is inaccurate: gems.rubyforge.org points to rubygems.org.

I'd check out this post, we're just starting to test a new server for the Dependency API:

It worked for me, which had to be now, not later - so I just thought I
would share.

I am looking forward to the up-and-running Dependency API, and thanks for
the blog post reference.

I'm a little confused. Bundler works perfectly with Rubygems.org, even though the API is down. The API just makes running `bundle install` a lot faster. Why do you need a mirror?

Just for the record, the reason it worked for you is that Bundler works just fine without the dependency API. It's a little slower, granted, but any Gemfile source line that worked before is going to keep working now.

I had the impression bundle update only checks the local gems without the
API, maybe I was accessing at a time when something else was down as well.

If there's a relatively easy way to self-host repositories, it will help to
take the load off the one and only source right now. Most users don't need
the whole repository and every single gem that's out in the market, an
option to "follow" a selection of gems and only the updates of those would
probably be desirable.
