a couple of weeks back I already made an announcement about this  
year's European Ruby Conference (EURUKO).

Currently it's planned for the weekend on the 3rd and 4th of  
November, which very unfortunately clashes nearly perfectly with  
RubyConf in in Charlotte, North Carolina (http://rubyconf.org/).
Turns that it hard to find a date matching every constraint:  
Shouldn't clash with either of: RailsConf(s), local public holidays,  
other conferences but should also be considerably earlier than  
Christmas (which rules out December)...

When the decision was made about the date I was entirely unaware of  
the RubyConf date. Sure enough: The planning for EURUKO 2008 needs to  
start a lot earlier.

However we'd be extremely happy to get some more feedback on what  
those who plan to come would like to see.
The general set up is like this:

* We're keeping the conference fee as low as possible -
   last year it was just 20 Euro.
* The planning of the talks was quite dynamic, some folks who
   came as 'attendant-only' gave presentations later the same day,
* It's *your* conference, so if you like to just contribute.

So here's another request for comments - to my e-mail, one of the  
blog posts over at phvalues.wordpress.com or just here.

What topics would you see covered by the presentations?
Would you attend if the date wouldn't clash with RubyConf?
   And if so, what other date would you propose.
Do you plan to come to this year's EURUKO?

My estimate would be that attendance would be rougly similar to last
years maybe +10%. If we have some sort of rudimentary registration, we
could at least make sure whatever location is picked won't get
flooded.

Are you currently the only person  organising? Is there a mailing list
or something similar that could be used for the people who are
interested in helping to interact and coordinate? I only collected
about two or three addresses of people I met last year, but it might
be a good idea to contact as many of last years attendants as possible
directly.

Have you considered using the barcamp infrastructure
(http://barcamp.org/) to organize? The type of conference this will be
is sufficiently similar, the ruby is interesting to the barcamp crowd
and showing a presence there would generate some publicity in and of
itself.

The wiki used last year is still functional (if ugly), but it's also
linked to from a lot of places and doesn't mention this year's
conference at all.

Since I'm in Cologne, I won't be much use to organize anything in
Munich directly, but I'd be willing to:

- organize nametags (as offered last year)
- create/host a mailing list
- help organize structure a wiki (or some other mode of interaction
for the organizers)
- give a presenation
- try to collect related forums that we could use for announcements
- send off a quick note to the people who's addresses I collected last year
- throw around ideas
- more or less anything someone else thinks of that would be feasible
to manage from Cologne :)

Thanks very much for taking the initiative to organise this year's Euroko!

I really do think that it's impossible nowadays to find completely
unconflicting stretches of time for Ruby events -- which is sort of
cool, because it reflects how much activity there is.  I do hope to
make it to another EuRuKo some day, though.

One suggestion: Make the schedule for Euruko 2008 and 2009 *today*.
Then it's  up to other conference planners to not conflict with you. :)

More self-centered suggestion; a request, really:  If you're having
Euruko in Munich (which, of course, you should), please try to hold it
earlier in the year when the weather is brighter/warmer.

The best bet I have for getting to Bavaria is to couple it with visiting
family and spending some time in the area, but the late fall/early
winter months really are not good for that.

I suspect this is true for others outside of Europe as well, for whom
getting there is enough of a personal expense that it is best fit in as
part of a vacation trip.

In addition to this there's a big university  that maybe can offer
some spaces or support in some way the event.

Probably Pisa is probably more camping friendly than Rome can be.

Or maybe the euruko could be one week before the other event so who's
lucky enough can spend the week in Pisa (Firenze or Siena are really
near and can keep people entertained during the week).

after a few weeks of struggling to find a location we finally found a  
place. In fact we also found a new date.
Sorry for any inconveniences all this back and forth may have caused.

Euruko 2007 will be located in Vienna, Austia on Saturday & Sunday  
10th and 11th November 2007.

As before this will also be announced at http://
phvalues.wordpress.com as well as the Euruko wiki (which we're using  
this year, too). The wiki is at http://www.euruko.com

the wiki to register and announce your presentation.
