Description: Discussing a one-day conference in London about the Ruby programming language.

Surrey Rubyists is rebooting - looking for speakers.
After a break, we are rebooting Surrey Rubyists! Surrey Rubyists User Group (SRUG) is a relatively new user group just for Ruby for those in the Surrey area. The next meet will be on: Tuesday 24th January 2012 starting at: 7:00pm. The new venue is: The Keep, 29 Castle St, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 3UW (map:... more »

Lightning talks?
We are considering making a chunk of the lunch break available for lightning talks - probably five or six up-to-5-minute presentations from anyone who has something they are passionate about and want to share. Since time is limited, we'd have to allocate slots of a first-come first-serve basis, probably with slides given in advance (the submission window being some interval in the early part of the day itself). Timing would also have to be quite strictly enforced to help things run smoothly.... more »

Friday night pub?
Hi all, Is there interest in meeting up pre-conference on the Friday night (28th October) for some drinks? We could call this the "pre-conference party" if you like, but let's keep it informal. Anyway, let me know if you're interested in that, and I'll gauge numbers to find a pub that can support us.... more »

Arse-sitting, bullshit and distraction
Final thoughts on whether the 29th should have a session devoted to discussion, in addition to the eight selected presentations. I realise it may be too late to affect this but I feel strongly that there should be such a session, given the good people that can make it to Ruby Manor. Indeed I feel it would be a considerable waste not to.... more »

Selections ending soon...
Hey folks, Hopefully you've all done this already, but if not, head over to vestibule and choose the proposals you'd like to see at Ru3y Manor on the 29th: [link] You *MUST* do this before noon today; at that time, we'll freeze the selections, and reveal the results to the world.... more »

Birds-of-a-feather lunches
At a recent, large W3C conference, one of the things I enjoyed was the "birds of a feather" lunches. Delegates could propose a topic during the breaktime on a whiteboard board, and then other attendees could sign up (the number was limited by the size of the lunch tables). Then we all had lunch together and talked about the topic - or in my case had a rambling 30 minute... more »

Questions?
Hello! I was chatting to a few people last night about the topic of conference questions to speakers, and how we'd like to handle that at the manor. A few things that people dislike about the "traditional" 10-minutes-for-questions format mentioned to me last night were: i) It takes up speakers time, which might be better used for a longer... more »
