I am relatively new to Ruby & especially Rails, so am spending a fair
amount of time learning about how to get an application up and running
quickly.
Heroku has been amazing, but I have also spent a lot of time looking
into other web hosting solutions, setting them up and seeing what the
restrictions / opportunities are.
Whilst this may not appeal to the more experienced Rubyists, anyone
who is starting out with Ruby and Rake compatible applications may
find it useful to learn about:
* Heroku, how quickly you can get up and running
* Quick effective Ruby hosting solution alternatives and why they
suck!
* Ideas on how to scale rapidly using Heroku applications concurrently
to process requests i.e. Heroku has limitations on database size and
dynos, but there a seemingly endless supply of applications
available. Some interesting applications can be built to distribute
tasks (map/reduce style) across various instances to achieve parallel
processing.
I appreciate not suitable for those with a fair amount of Ruby
experience, but talking about Heroku alone would be interesting for
anyone who has not tried it.
