It seems likely that the tests needed would fit under the request tests. In theory we should ensure the tests we have related to register_instance have better coverage (and then make sure that these mock fixes fit together with that to prove we did the right thing). If you want to just open a pull request and start with what you know I'd be happy to walk you through the rest as needed.

I feel competent to fix this but I am not sure how to write the shindo tests. I have looked at the existing tests but I can't really find any test which does something similar to this. I am also unsure if the test should live in tests/aws/models or tests/aws/requests. I would love to receive some pointers or hints on how to write those tests.
