Either there is a problem in EAN13 encoding or I'm doing something wrong.

Hello, group.

I was wondeirng if somebody can shed light on this.

I'm using EAN13 encoding - to encode a test 10 digit number =
"1234567890"

I understand that I need to use 12 digits so I added two 0s = one in
front one - in the back like so "012345678900"

I then converted it to png with Rmagick and printed and scaned it, I'm
missing a 0 in front and getting a check_sum digit instead
"123456789005" . I tried scanning some UPCs around office on some
software boxes and such - they all scan with a 12 digit number ( that
is right under upc code) - no check_sum number.

Does anyone have any idea?

Ok nevermind. Confusion is on my part. Rereading rdocs in the morning
helped - "To use this for a UPC barcode, just add a 0 to the front "

Thanks anyways
