Well here it is!

With this version, you can view all of your tasks except for smart lists.  I
am having some issues with the API and smart lists (
http://groups.google.com/group/rememberthemilk-api/browse_thread/thre...
).

When viewing tasks, you can see the menu contains complete and all the other
options.  They are currently there just for show, and only display some
debugging information.

If you find any bugs, have any suggestions, etc please file an issue report
here: http://code.google.com/p/rtm4bb/issues/list  Be sure to include any
kind of error message and other data that may be included.

Please follow this little guide when running the application for the first
time: http://code.google.com/p/rtm4bb/wiki/Authorize_BBRTM

To install the program via USB cable, you can download the alx and cod files
here:
http://code.google.com/p/rtm4bb/source/browse/trunk/BBRTM.alx
http://code.google.com/p/rtm4bb/source/browse/trunk/BBRTM.cod

If you want to do OTA install, point your BlackBerry to the following
address: http://dev.barigniter.com/BBRTM.jad

It may take a second when it loads.  This is because it is downloading your
tasks from RTM API.  The more tasks you have the longer it may take.

If you have any other questions, please let me know...

Enjoy!

Awesome.  It's looking really good on my Perl 8130.  I wish the fonts
were anti-aliased like the rest of the OS but that's not a big deal
right now.

The only thing I am craving is a way to actually add stuff and maybe
define what list it starts with.  Some local caching of your items
would be great as well.  Maybe since it's open source I'll make an
attempt to help out later on when I get a chance.

Otherwise this is really great.  I'm so happy someone took the time to
make this.  Thanks.

Installation was a little buggy -- the browser launched but never
actually loaded the RTM page.  After waiting 2 minutes i escaped back
to the home screen and manually opened the browser, which took me
right to the RTM page -- authorization was fine from there.

Awesome job Jason -- very slick

I don't always have the best reception at my house, but when I try to
run BBRTM my 8130 freezes for about 8 seconds (loading or trying to
connect i think), and then gives me the error message
"org.emmerick.rtm.RTMException: Error making HTTP API Request". I have
to drive a little closer to civilization in a few mins anyway, so ill
try then and let you know how it goes.

I get that error probably 3/4 of the times i try to get my list,
sometimes it will have a hex code below it. When it does connect it
looks very nice. I don't notice the anti-aliasing problem the other
guy with the 8130 was having. In later versions will we be able to
click on a task to see a more detailed description of it?

Those of you getting the authentication errors - it's because RTM is
asking you if BBRTM is authorized to interface with your stuff.  The
initial launch opens the browser and lets you login - then you have to
click the button to authorize this.  After that it works fine...
mostly...

...I say mostly because I can't actually "complete" a task.  If I hit
the BB button and press on complete it just sits there and does
nothing.  I am on a Verizon BB Perl 8130.  I also can't seem to figure
out how to add an item to my lists.

It would be cool if there was some sort of caching on the device so
that the load times were not so much.  That way it would also work
offline and sync up later but that's not a huge deal right now as I'm
sure that Jason is more interested in basic functionality and testing.

I have also started getting this message intermittently.  Most of the time, clicking the bbrtm icon spawns a brows and the rtm site stating that the app was authorized correctly.  It instructs to close the browser and relaunch the app that brought you to the page.  When I do this, I get the JSON message that I posted previously...has anyone else experienced this?  I am running a sprint 8830 and I downloaded ota install.

is causing the problem and plans to have it fixed in the next alpha

Hey everyone,

Sorry I haven't been around much of the morning...  I have been sleeping
much of the day as I am not feeling well... All of my roommates are sick and
I think they finally got me sick as well...

I hope to address every one's concerns in this email...

JiveMasterT - I am not sure on the fonts issue.  I believe everywhere in the
program I am using the default font.  If you could take a screen shot of
what it looks like that would be a great help.  There are a couple programs
for taking screen shots:

   -
   http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-blackberry-discussion/18789-j...
   -
   http://www.blackberryforums.com/bes-admin-corner/26317-blackberry-scr...

You and anyone else are more than welcome to help hack away at the code.

Jay.Wall - A couple other people have also reported that error.  It has to
do with repeated tasks...  I couldn't reproduce this problem on my own but
with the help of Jorge I was able to track it down.  I will be fixing that
error after I finish this email and will have another small release tonight
which will be announced here on this group.

Mr. Matt - Yeah there are some issues with the authentication.  In fact the
same thing just happened on mine during some testing.  Fortunately, once you
authenticate, you shouldn't have to again unless there is an error during
start up that kicks you out to the error screen.  That will clear you auth
token and you would have to start over again with the process.   Another
option that I just thought about would be a website based approach.   You
would access a site on your desktop to do the authentication process and
then a auth token would be send to you which you could copy/paste into the
program.  The authentication process is definitely something we will have to
work on.

Chip - I'm glad it worked for ya.  I would hope so since you have the same
phone/provider as me.  ;)

Sloaner - Unfortunately as of right now there is no cache/off-line access.
That will be coming though!  Currently you need to make an HTTP request to
the API when the program is started to load your tasks which means you have
to be in reception area.

MB - It seems as if you are connected and authenticated however for some
reason the HTTP request to get your tasks has failed or returned something
that is not JSON request.  I may have to work with you more on this.

JiveMasterT - The ability to complete a task is not in this release.  The
menu option is just there for show right now...  That will be the next major
alpha release. Also adding and editing tasks has not been add yet either.
That will probably be in the 0.3a release.  Off-line/caching will be added
as soon as the basic functionality is complete.  That would probably be
milestone 0.4a.  This release was, as you mentioned, more about getting
feedback from everyone and some basic testing to see what kind of problems
were out there.

prtrotter - see the authentication explanation below.

Here is how authentication works for those having issues.

The first time you launch the app, the app checks the persistent storage for
a frob and a authentication key.  If there is no data there, a frob is
requested via the RTM API and stored in the persistent storage.  This frob
is then used to construct an authentication URL which is sent to your
BlackBerry browser and then the application closes.  You should be seeing a
RTM page where you can login.  Once you login, you are asked if you want to
give BBRTM delete permissions on your account.  You should click yes go for
it to allow BBRTM access to your account.  The final page you should see is
a page saying authentication successful.

After successfully authorizing BBRTM, you can re-open BBRTM.  BBRTM once
again gets the data from persistent storage and recognizes that you have a
frob but no authroization token.  So BBRTM makes another HTTP request to the
RTM API to request a authentication token using the frob that you just
authenticated.  Once the auth token is retrieved, BBRTM stores this in
storage and downloads a list of your tasks and processes them.  You should
also now be able to see BBRTM in your services section of your RTM settings.

On subsequent launches of the application, it realizes that you have a frob
and auth token which it uses to get your tasks and go on its merry way.

If there are errors during the initial launch of the program such as a
failure to make an HTTP request, the frob wasn't properly authenticated, or
a JSON error, the persistent storage where your auth data is stored, is
wiped.  I will be changing this so it doesn't wipe your data when you are
successfully authenticated.

bking39116 - First, thanks for the great feedback/review.  Here are some
comments to your suggestions.

   - Supplemental information task color - I agree, I am working on find
a solution to this.  Should this go to the same color as the Task name does
   when highlighted?
   - Tags - There is no way to get a list of your tags via the API so to
add tag support, when I retrieve a list of your tasks, those tags get added
to a tag list.  The tag lists is also currently not sorted, however I agree
that it does need to be.
   - Overdue Due Dates - I agree.  I will change overdue due dates to
show the date they were due and to make the supplemental font red.
   - Today Screen - Originally I rolled overdue tasks and today tasks
into the same screen ala the iPhone version.  If there is consensus against
this, I can separate this out. ( And why do you have overdue tasks?! :p just
   kidding )
   - All Tasks View - I can easily add an option for this via the menu.
Ill have that in the next major release.
   - Manual Refresh - I will add this option as well.  Plus I will try
and add an option which will auto refresh every X minutes or whatever.

Thanks everyone for their comments and suggestions and my apologies to those
who are having issues.  Keep them coming and I will do my best to fix all
the bugs and implement suggestions.

I am going to try and have a release late tonight depending on how
everything goes and I don't die from whatever I have...

Jason
