Hi Routix people,

I see this Group is supposed to be in English, so hopefully someone
can respond to me?

I am trying to setup the latest Routix Netcom (Console version
2.0.0.195, Service version 2.0.0.452), but I'm having trouble figuring
out where to start. I know a bit about networks, but I'm not a
networking guru... However, Routix Netcom sounds EXACTLY like what
I'm looking for.

I have a dedicated test machine setup with Windows 2000, SP4 plus (all
latest Windows updates), two Network cards (both 3-Com 10/100
Etherlink) and Netcom installed. The two cards both have drivers
installed and Windows is happy. They are connected to separate
network segments. Both are using DHCP. IPCONFIG reports that both
connections have obtained IP addresses correctly. I can PING both IP
addresses successfully.

We have an un-capped, speed-limited ADSL connection to the Internet at
home. It runs at between 1.5Mbps and 2.5Mbps downstream, and is ISP
limited to a maximum speed of 128Kbps upstream. There are no traffic
limits.

We have two VOIP phones, each with their own IP and MAC addresses.

We have a number (about 5) General Purpose Windows Workstation PCs,
all with Internet access.

We have one dedicated Peer-to-Peer file sharing PC which runs 24 x 7.

The problem is that when the peer-to-peer machine is busy, Internet
access to the other machines is marginal, and the VOIP is effectively
unusable. We need to be able to throttle the peer-ot-peer machine
when other people or VOIP need the Internet.

I envisage giving VOIP the highest priority, the Workstations middle,
and the peer-to-peer lowest. When VOIP is active, we want to choke
all the other users, and when the other machines are using the
Internet, limit the peer-to-peer. The rest of the time, we want the
peer-to-peer run at full speed. From what I can see, with NetCom we
should be able to do exactly that.

I've been able to make Connections, but then things start to go
wrong. I get many program error message boxes popping up:

"Access violation at address 00540002 in module 'netcom.console.exe'.
Write of address 846499E5."

"Access violation at address 00E25ABD. Write of address 00000026."

"App. Module -> Access violation at address 43086574. Read of address
43086574."

"Access violation at address 75A34BA6 in module 'vbscript.dll'. Write
of address 71718E77."

Presumably, I've done something wrong and encountered some kind of
program bug as I'm sure this should not be happening.

Can anyone please give me some step-by-step instructions on how to set
this up?

I'm presuming I need to set up a bridge, then apply throttling rules
to the other network clients, but I'm at a loss as to how to do it.
Can anyone please help? Maybe your efforts could go to improving the
instruction manual...

Try to download and reinstall Windows Script 5.x from the Microsoft's
site or from routix.net.

Hi Routix.net,

Thanks for the prompt response. Csript.exe reports it's already at
V5.6. Downloading now, but most of the errors have stopped happening
- except if I run the Configuration wizard, which gives a blank
warning message box (with a Red Cross) from Netcom.console, followed
by another Access violation in Netcom.console.exe...

I'm still trying to figure out how to setup, but could you give me
some pointers please?

Would I be better installing another two Network Adapters - so total
is 1 in and 3 out - one for VOIP, one for LAN PCs, and one for P2P -
or will that require a bigger CPU? What is the best way to do this,
please?

Hi again, thanks for responses.

I re-installed WSH 5.6 but it made no difference. Must be a problem
with the Win 2000 install. Reinstalling and updating now... Will let
you know.
