to Rosebank Neighborhood
It is a great day for our historic high school in East Nashville
(specifically, Rosebank!), and Buster Boguskie would be smiling right
now. The Mayor has graciously included $20 million in the capital
spending plan this year for Stratford to be completely renovated.
This is long overdue, and this is just of course in the Mayor's
initial budget draft (expect great debate this year, given the
circumstances), so a long way to go yet before this is 100% reality.
But anyone that has been in Stratford the last few years, knows how
much our facility needed this.
But the Mayor's commitment to education in Metro Schools has touched
home here in East Nashville, and I think all the awareness raised and
the progress made at Stratford, including: Becoming a STEM magnet,
Martha O'Bryan Top Floor Program, State Championship track team sans
actual track, amazing leadership with Principal Michael Steele, and
having a school full of good kids has all come together and made MNPS,
The Mayor's office, Dr. Register and others take notice.
I look forward to pushing this into complete reality and seeing
Stratford's campus take shape as a top tier building and asset in East
Nashville.
This truly will be a wonderful investment and yet another enormous
LEAP for our East Nashville public high school. I understand it still
has a ways to go academically as well. But this will truly continue
pushing towards those goals, and be a much better environment for our
students once complete. (Not to mention if we get it included, a
gorgeous walking track for Inglewood and Rosebank!)
Sincerely,
Anthony Davis
