Hey all...

Trying to be concise here as I've been saddled with a recurring horrible sinusitis and I flat-out feel like trash today.

The page for Kurt Andrews (a local Artist: http://rocwiki.org/Kurt_Andrew) is pretty personal discussing his accomplishments and such.

Brad is of the opinion (and I'm not downing the idea--just disagree)...that it should be changed to be NPOV and the such.

I am of the opinion that Local Artists are a unique group of people and I think we should consider not being so strict on NPOV. Artists really sell themselves and their unique talent.  He's clearly listed it not as a user page but one offering his services as an artist. This could lead to an expansion of the Artists section that could grow as the Arts are such a special part of Rochester's population/culture.

Any thoughts???? I really am interested in further discussion on this....

Budding and budded artists have lots of options for promoting
themselves on the web, such as FaceBook, MySpace, Google Sites,
etc.... I can hear the Econ Development people cranking it up for
startups and small business and how CRITICAL they are to the success
of our local area - Politicians will always want an exception.
Everyone will be pleading their special case.

My suggestion was to cleanup the page, making it NPOV saving it and
moving the page content intact to the UserPage.

The simple rule is a page is editable by anyone and that would include
me or other editors cleaning it up for NPOV.

User Pages are already a special case and the budding and not so
budding artists can jump all over it. They, their family, fans, and
friends can put comments on the main page, including a link to their
User Page. Their page can link to their other web presence. They can
join the Arts Council and get listed in the directory
http://www.artsrochester.org/YouCan/join.htm#Artist - etc, etc.

When rules don't make sense, I suggest we amend them and make RocWiki
better; however, when they serve a legitimate purpose, and there are
clear and complete alternatives, why create special cases that others
will covet or assert for themselves.

One underlying issue is RocWiki's credibility, if folks think it has
turned into a promotion machine, then they won't come back or will
devalue its content.

Such a devaluation is not in concert with the investment many of us
have made to develop RocWiki into a sizeable and robust offering.
