November mass is on black friday

I just discovered the ride this month happens to fall on the Friday
after Thanksgiving, aka "Black Friday"
Is anyone interested in making this into an anti-consumerism event,
possibly drawing attention to pointless consumption? I seem to recall
one year a ride to this effect but at the time I had a job and could not
participate.

I don't think you should use critical mass for ulterior motives.
A lot of us who ride are not interested in your politics, or agree
with them. Many riders don't go to CM because it's to often
associated with, or unwittingly turned into some sort of whatever.

please keep critical mass as a bike ride. it's hard enough that we
don't agree on what critical mass is/should be (resulting in a few of
us planning possible alternative critical mass rides) , please don't
make more dividers.

the alternative CM rides are just being talked about now. it will
probably be april when it starts. there are about 15 or so people
interested. Just sick of the idea of being a hinderance to traffic as
counter productive and want to show, with out any other motives, that
bikes are traffic.
alot of people don't like the speed of the ride. there are those,
especially fixed, that physically can not go that slow.
Disobeying traffic laws is also counter productive.
i understand we can't all ride as quickly as we would like, but the
same time, the pace needs to be traffic safe. or it is pointless and
just makes us out to be road hazards, or a parade or something.

as a traditionalist, i'll probably ride on christmas day along with anyone else who wants to come. i like the idea of a new years ride as an alt but i probably wont be in town for it. As to the note below, critical mass, in my opinion, is meant to be a parade! a festive happy celebration where you ride slow enough to look around, wave at folks, say hello, etc. honestly, last ride i couldnt keep up with people because it was moving so fast. to me, that defeats the purpose of the mass. but so does riding two by two at traffic speed following all the traffic laws. im happy to let cars pass but i also want them to see us as a presence. also, the mass moving somewhat slower allows a lot of differet people at different abilities to participate. im all over the place here, sorry. one last thought is that the ride becomes dangerous when things get spread out--then you've got daredevil drivers willing to drive on the wrong side of the road and weaving in and out of pockets of bicycles. but maybe there needs to be a fixie mass? i was unaware of the mechanic implications. my $.02 ted- --- On Mon, 11/30/09, Krist Fighting Robots <giantfigh...@gmail.com> wrote:
