Just make this a universal--much as I HATE to say "always."
Still, there is no place on Roatan where a swim suit and cover up
t-shirt/shorts won't do fine. And SOOOO many places to swim and
snorkel--including Parrot Tree-- to miss out on if you don't have your
suit on.
I guess that also means bring a snorkel/mask with you everywhere too,
eh?
Why not make a Roatan survival kit--bring a knapsack with sunscreen,
bug repellant, LARGE bottled water, snorkel/mask, paperback book, small
flashlight (very little public lighting here--MANY power outages), a
towel (ask Douglas Adams of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy why a
towel is useful 100 ways!)And I always carry a roll of duct tape and
fire (matches, lighter, whatever) with me. (Long story, but duct tape
is also useful 100 ways.)
Carry USA driver's license and some cash even if not in a backpack--NOT
PASSPORT OR AIRLINE TICKETS. Any meds or snacks you might need are
good too --and maybe some dry undies or a clean swim suit if the one
you have on gets too itchy on your backside--use that towel to make a
changing room taped up to a tree with the duct tape (if there's none
where you are and often there will not be) Or, if you have no
knapsack, just put all this stuff in that same large towel and put a
rubber band (or duct tape) around the top of it. BTW rubber bands are
also useful since we're bringing no hairbrush.
So I guess what I'm saying is, don't plan your days--just hit the
island prepared to go with whatever you come across???? <shrugs>
Now that you're COMPLETELY sure how nutty I am--try remember I've been
here on Roatan for seven years-- and that I fit in here just fine.
Also I am usually smiling and happy. <grins>
As always, we hope this helps!
