I was over at Greenfield this AM and saw the Mute Swan. There
weren't many other waterfowl there. About
an hour before noon there some big flocks of Robins and Cedar Waxwings
here at Woodpecker Ridge. They
would take off and fly/swirl around every now and then, if a hawk or
something startled them. The robins were
in loose flocks of 100-200 totaling about 1000. The Waxwings were
in 3 tighter flocks of 80 or 90 each with
a total of about 250. They seemed to be feeding on 'wild grapes',
'autumn olive berries', and 'apples'. I wonder
if the low pressure/snow possibility has them in such a feeding
frenzy.

Regarding Barry's report of waterfowl at Greenfield, I headed over to Carvins Cove today and also made a stop at Murray's Pond. It was quiet at the cove, only saw 6 Bufflehead and a Pied-billed Grebe. Murray's Pond was a little better - the wintering flock of Gadwall has increased to 50, with almost a certainty of more to come. Also present were 4 or 5 pair of Hooded Mergansers, several Mallards and two male Green-winged Teal, plus a single Canada Goose.
