I was able to get ROConnect to install on my computer and to connect
to the roku player. The problem I have now is getting movies to play.
I selected the folder that all my movies were in and indexed all
movies. The movies come up and I can select them on the Roku player.
The problem is that when i try to start the movie it flashes on my TV
and then imediately goes back to the screen to start the movies. All
movies are in mp4 format. I even try to play the movies on the
roconnect player but nothing happens. In the index i get the actual
running time of the movie but when I try to start it it shows 0 mins.
This is on a windows Operating system. Help!!

I just installed RoConnect and am having the exact same problem.
Videos indexed (most are M4v and WMV files), they show up on the Roku
Channel when I navigate into it, and if I select one to play it, the
screen flashes for a second (as if it's trying to load) and
immediately goes back to the Play Video screen before it. Any advice?

The problem is most likely something wrong with the file format.
Although you may have an .mp4, that is considered only a container and
can vary greatly in the actual encoding. I have placed a sample video
you can download from http://www.ro-connect.com/support.php under the
"Video Support" heading. If you are still having problems with that
video then there is something up. However, if that video works then
you can be sure there is something off on the video formatting. There
is also a list of supported video formats on the support page. The
support page also has a link to download Handbrake, which will rip
DVDs to a format readable by your Roku player.

This may be an encryption problem. I had this same problem with the
movie "Up In The Air" which along with a few other movies has unique
encryption which affects the navigation. For this movie anyway, I was
able to fix this by encrypting with DVDfab 8. DVDfab appears to be
able to handle this type of encryption.

I'm getting the same problem as described above even with your sample movie.  I looked through the webserver log files and see the following:

[Sun Aug 07 16:56:13 2011] [error] [client 192.168.1.103] File does not exist: /var/www/movies

That's not the directory I have specified in the roConnect configuration.    The server is indexing the files properly and they are showing up on my roku box but when I actually try to play, the server is trying to get the file out of /var/www/movies, not the place that is specified.

Ideas?

I went ahead and created /var/www/movies and copied your sample movie into that location and it played fine.

My workaround is to create a symbolic link to the place where the actual movies are.

sudo ln -s /home/dolive/roku /var/www/movies
