Dear Potential Sponsor,
The reinforcement learning competition is a semi-annual international
event that invites practitioners of reinforcement learning to test
their algorithms in a variety of different events. This year’s 8-
month competition concludes with a meeting that is co-located with the
International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) in Helsinki,
Finland. ICML is the premiere machine learning conference, and is
attended by approximately a thousand of the top students, faculty, and
industry researchers working in machine learning.
2008 has been a break-out year in terms of participation and community
involvement in the competition. Preliminary results this year have
already exceeded records previously set by our community! There are
already over 140 teams registered to compete, representing over 34
countries, with almost two months remaining!
We are contacting you to offer the opportunity to sponsor either
travel support, prizes, or general support for the reinforcement
learning competition.
Travel support sponsorship provides $1000 USD bursaries for students
who might not otherwise be able to afford coming to the conference.
Our goal is to provide support for at least ten students. Your
organization could provide one or more “YourOrganization Travel
Bursaries”.
Prize sponsorship provides support to present our top participants
with prizes and certificates to reward their accomplishment. We have
six different events, and our goal is to raise the equivalent of $1000
of prizes for each event. We are seeking both direct financial
support to purchase prizes and physical prizes like laptops, game
consoles, mp3 players, other gadgets, etc.
General support will cover the costs of equipment rental, incidentals,
and a thank you dinner for the invited speakers and organizers. We
are seeking $1000 of general financial support.
All sponsors will receive recognition on our website, literature,
posters, and verbal recognition at the workshop. If your organization
provides travel bursaries or prizes valued at $1000 or more, those
bursaries or events will be directly attributed to your organization.
For example: “Helicopter Control Event, sponsored by
YourOrganization”. Sponsors also have the opportunity to provide
promotional materials (tshirts, pens, notebooks, bags, etc) for
meeting attendees. Also, if you have any other ideas about how you
would like to contribute or how we could recognize your support, we'd
like to hear them.
We hope that we can count on your support to make the 2008 RL-
Competition workshop a success!
