ZONE TRIP TO THE FRINGE: SALTON SEA

---------------------------------------------------------

The Ride To Nowhere

When? -  President's Day Weekend, February 15th -18th,
What?  - Carpool out to Salton Sea to camp, and ride our bicycles.
Where? - Slab City and Salvation Mountain are in the mix.

"Sometimes tradition is the fuel that drives the wheels of creation.
After all, the original can only come into being if it has never
existed before, and how do you know it never existed before if you
aren't willing to immerse yourself in the things that belong to the
days of yore?

The Cacophony Society has long understood this and been willing to mix
tradition with the future. There's no better place for this that on
the perennial favorite--Zone Trip to Salvation Mountain and Slab City.

Bring along your bicycles, old paint and other accoutrements for a
three-day weekend that'll make Moses' visit to Mount Sinai look
like...well, it'll still look more important than this, but the Zone
Trip will be way more fun than having God bitch at you for coveting
your neighbor's wife."
-Reverend Margaret

UPDATE (01/24/08): Theme!
Yes, there is going to be a suggested theme for the whole weekend. Post-Apocalypse - Punk. Think Mad Max & Tank Girl.
Also to keep in the bike-bikery flavor — pimp your bikes out with rockets, spikes, rubber duckies & polka-dots.
I mean, seriously, when the world ends, there aren’t going to be gas to run cars, much less cars.

UPDATE (01/28/08): Bikes!
For the best time, bring a FAT-TIRED BIKE. Many of us are in a Bike “Cult”. And we’re bringing bikes. We are going to ride these bikes to various destinations, one location is 20 miles - one way. But those without bikes can carpool and meet us.

UPDATE (01/28/08): Location!
Notes from our recon:
We're camping near "Hitchhikers Camp" which is just south-east of Salvation Mountain.
Majority of the terrain is DIRT ROADS. Fat tires (both beer and bikes) are suggested. But most riding will be on really grainy Asphalt.
At least one ride is planned. It will be 40 miles round trip. We will probably need car-support (for water and drinks at the end.)
Most rides will be impromptu, such as beer runs to Niland, and visiting the awesome things IN Slab City.
It's completely PRIMITIVE. So you need to figure out how to manage all waste, include POOP, Piss & vomit. Leave No Trash.
The IS Cellphone service, sprint being the weakest, AT&T/T-Mobile being strongest.Maps will be made available.
But it's best to get there DURING THE DAY. There are no lights, no signs, nothing once you're in Slab City.
Please bring your friends & family. Even if they don't ride bikes. There will be a lot of people there without bikes.

We'll try to put up some signs up: ZONE->

Make a right on this dirt road once you cross the bridge into Slab City. (Right under the power cables)

The camp area will be to the right of the water tower.
