Next, thanks for the great GREAT turnout last month. There was just enough room for all of us but our ambitions continue to blossom. If  you want to find out more or to participate in the Richmond AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE), visit www.aiaric.org or email co...@aiaric.org. Thanks again to Baskervill for sponsoring. Psst ... we need a sponsor for February. Please contact me pronto if you'd be willing to help.

This month we're going to have Tom Griffin, coordinator of  Virginia Green for the Department of Environmental Quality, tell us about his program for greening Virginia's restaurants. Building on the success of the Virginia Green Lodging program, Virginia Green has created guidelines for Virginia restaurants to green their operations. Next step will be for all of us "stewards" to talk it up with the management and ownership of our area restaurants. What could come of it includes new green business opportunities, better food, and a better environment. In the spirit of keeping Green Drinks an unstructured event, Tom will give a short introduction to this program and then be available during the rest of the schmoozefest to discuss it further. Be sure to invite your favorite local restaurant manager or owner! Sounds like the makings for a Richmond Green Restaurant Association to me.

What is Green Drinks? Every month people who work in building and environmental fields meet up for a beer at these informal sessions. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. Look for our website at the international organization - greendinks.org.
