Friends, If you're ready to hear some of the best live music in New
Orleans in some of the best venues possible, buy yourself a ticket to
the 2009 Rhythmic Arts Festival. RAF is about social dancing to great
live music! Contests are short. Classes are for everyone. Dancing
doesn't end.

LUKE WINSLOW-KING (Thursday July 30)
Hailing from Cadillac MI, Luke Winslow-King is a singer-songsmith,
multi-instrumentalist and composer on a journey to become a true
musical expeditionary. Inspired by New Orleans rag time,
impressionism, delta and country blues, poetry, folk, and classical
composition, his sound is both rustic and elegant.

TREME BRASS BAND (Friday July 31)
Benny Jones, Sr. founded the Treme Brass Band over 15 years ago.
Although they are known internationally through their recordings and
tours, the Treme Brass Band is still firmly rooted in the New Orleans
street band tradition. Many veterans of Treme have gone on to found
other bands, including the Rebirth, New Birth, and Little Rascal
Bands. The Tremè Brass Band plays the music of a people. The people in
New Orleans who know how to celebrate life with a second line parade
or mourn a person's death with a jazz funeral.

LOOSE MARBLES (Friday July 31)
The Loose Marbles are a street jazz band in New Orleans. Relatively
new to the traditional jazz scene they have already made quite a name
for themselves playing with some of the best musicians in the city.

NEW LEVIATHAN ORCHESTRA (Saturday August 1)
Taking its name from the SS Leviathan, a transatlantic ocean liner
with a well regarded dance band at the start of the 1920s, the
orchestra was founded in 1972. This revival orchestra performs
authentic orchestrations of vintage American popular music from the
1890s through the early 1930s. The orchestra pays particular attention
to the music of New Orleans, where it is based.

N.O. MOONSHINERS (Saturday August 1)
What started as a couple of musicians roaming around town, playing on
the street, sitting in at clubs, and going wherever they could go to
play jazz, has transformed into a collaboration of several dedicated
young musicians. With a vision and a sound uniquely their own, the New
Orleans Moonshiners repertoire includes traditional spirituals, Tin
Pan Alley, swing, and hot jazz from the 20’s. Whatever it is, their
completely acoustic music and high energy gets people dancing on the
spot.

TOM MCDERMOTT & CONNIE JONES (Sunday August 2)
Tom McDermott is not required to play nice with others. He weaves
historical strands from Africa, the Caribbean and South America into a
distinctly Big Easy tapestry. On his new "Creole Nocturne" (Arbors
Records), McDermott is paired with veteran local cornetist Connie
Jones. Pete Fountain recently declared Jones "the greatest cornet
player in the country, and I've played with a lot of them."

Tickets ONLY $80 Before JUNE 30
