Despite playing much of the game with only 12 men and against an
Abergele side containing several first team players, Rhyl came close to
scoring a shock win and were leading until the last 20 minutes. Gwyn
Thomas scored an early try, with Erik Lloyd converting, along with two
penalty goals for a 13-0 lead. Gele were lucky to reduce then deficit
on the stroke of halftime with a dubious penalty try but then made
their extra numbers pay in the forwards with a couple of second half
driving mauls.
