First of all I want to mention that Rhomobiles initiative is awesome,
many people are looking for a way to write an application once and
then build it for several operating systems.
The online editor is a good feature too.

There's one big problem with it though: Ruby.
A lot of people have never coded with Ruby and without proper
documentation will probably never start using Rhomobile either.
I speak from experience, because I simply can't find a decent point to
start.
Most tutorials are about using Rhomobile to build for different
operating systems.
That is not something that needs explaining.

I am a developer with experience in several languages and am familiar
with different IDE's (Eclipse, Netbeans, etc).
RhoHub is pretty confusing to me though.
Without any Ruby (and/or on Rails) knowledge there's very little we
can create.
Now, I'm a curious guy (and a fast learner) and was really interested
in Ruby after reading about it.
Followed some tutorials (which are hard to find), but still have no
clue how to use this information within RhoHub.

Perhaps I am going about this the wrong way, but I can see a lot of
people scratching their heads and moving on to use something other
than Rhomobile (I'm currently waiting for a test account with Steape).
Pointers are very welcome, because I do want to keep trying to make
this work.
If anyone can share his/her source code for a sample application that
would be awesome (because I can't login with admin/password for the
sample application), because I learn best by example.

I wonder what others are thinking though. I guess people who have
worked with Ruby/Rails before have no problem using Rhomobile, but I'm
interested in what other inexperienced people like myself think of it.

Hello. Thanks for your feedback. Have you seen the rhohub tutorial?
Have you looked at other sample apps such as the pivotal tracker app
from Koombea? There are many other public apps on rhohub to view as
well.

Specifically this tutorial, http://wiki.rhomobile.com/index.php/Tutorial
or the RhoHub tutorial at http://wiki.rhomobile.com/index.php/RhoHub_Tutorial
(I'm guessing you may have started with
http://wiki.rhomobile.com//index.php?title=Building_Rhodes_on_Supported_Platforms
instead, which is indeed just focused on build). Also there's good
stuff in Sarah Allen and Vidal Graupera's book, an alpha of which is
at: http://www.apress.com/book/view/9781430228684

You may find that if you are working with an app that just does
Create, Read, Update and Delete of remote data that you don't much
much Ruby. Mostly because rhogen will generate the Ruby you need for
all of that. But it's of course great to learn some Ruby which
should serve you in good stead whatever type of programming you do in
the future. I like Why's Poignant Guide to Ruby, still available at
http://mislav.uniqpath.com/poignant-guide/ but there are a dozens of
great Ruby books to choose from.

Cheers,

- Adam

Where would I be able to find those public apps?
I've been looking for them, but couldn't find them (perhaps something
to improve as well?).

If I could only have a few example applications (that I can check in
RhoHub itself) that would be a major help.
Then I wouldn't need any tutorials anymore.

Btw, I wasn't trying to make Rhomobile look bad, I'm just a little
disappointment that the learning curve is quite steep if you have no
experience with Ruby/Rails.
My apologies if it seemed that way ;)

Go to rhohub.com, click on the Apps tab and you'll see many.  The featured one this week is TrackR (mobilized Pivotal Tracker).   You can also see many other apps listed below based on recent activity.

Oh right, every time I visited rhohub.com it was on my personalized
page.
This should be plenty of info to get me up to speed.
Thanks for the help.

Hi,

You can find some open source rhodes applications here at my github
page:

http://github.com/VGraupera

And I am writing a book as well, the initial chapters are about rhodes
and rhosync.
