Thanks Dalila for the photos, and thanks to Mark for flagging the fact that the stairs came up for rehabilitation.
For those of you in River Heights Corydon and new to this ongoing discussion in west Central , the city almost accidentally redid the stairs under the Maryland and Sherbrooke bridges without appropriate facilities for bicycles and wheelchairs. This is not the fault of any one person, but rather a symptom of the scale of work being done, and the lack of appropriate active transportation design standards and guidelines (which are coming, by the way).
The attached document will be used it make the argument for the need to invest heavily in this spot, and will also be a neat record if/when a different design is chosen. . . . . .
. . . . . . .So, the city is working on the north stairs.
but:
the south side needs work . . . .
ADVOCACY OPPORTUNTITY: If anyone feels up for a little advocacy with good chances at success, get contact info for the synagogue and use the document to show those responsible the potential of fixing up the pathway connections. They not only might be able to do the small stuff themselves (like that dirt covered curb just south of the path), but it is also super helpful if the local property owners are willing to help drive the change forward and grant access to their property.
Sincerely,
Anders
