The unprecedented uprising in several countries of the middle-east has changed the face of democracy in the world, forever. Thousands of citizens of these countries began taking to the streets to protest poverty, rampant unemployment, government corruption, autocratic governance and brought the decades old dictatorial regimes to an end. Primarily driven by the new generation, the protesters used new-age tools to organize themselves and demanded political and social reforms.
These demonstrations sent a clear signal that people are waking up to freedom, equality and good governance. It also sent a strong message that the governments across the world cannot take their power and position for granted. India, today is faced with multitude of problems from rising prices to corruption, from unemployment to poverty. A revolution in another part of the globe has triggered a thought whether the time has come for Indians to start asking for transparency and accountability in governance through a revolution as well, and if so, what is the nature of changes or revolution required?
