Dear All,

Apologies for not sending the RFGI September updates earlier. Please see below the RFGI activities for the month of September and October.

1. Public Debate on 'Why are Heroes in India born only in Bollywood and Cricket?
On Monday, 26th September 2011, RFGI hosted a public debate on a slightly different topic, exploring how better role-models can be created in our society. Please find attached the Debate Summary and a picture with this email for your reference.

2. Awareness Programme at Pandit Din Dayal Petroleum University (PDPU)
As part of its awareness initiatives, RFGI organised screening of the documentary 'Please Vote for Me' at PDPU, followed by a discussion on democracy and its pros and cons on 29th September 2011. Many students attended the screening and excitedly took part in the discussion that followed the screening.

3. Talk at IIT, Chennai
Kanan Dhru, Founder of RFGI, was invited to make a presentation on 'Transparency in Governance' at the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, as part of IIT-Chennai's Annual Festival 'Shaastra' on 1st October 2011.  Speaking at the same Symposium were dignitaries like Shri Santosh Hegde and Shri Jayprakash Narayan.

4. Sharing of Views and Film Screenings on 'I love Ahmedabad which is...'
RFGI collaborated with Institute of Transport Development and Policy (ITDP) as well as Ahmedabad Film Project in organising an event on sharing of views and film screening on the theme of creating liveable, equitable and better-governed cities on 15th October 2011. ITDP is an international organisation working across 10 countries, primarily focusing on building sustainable cities through influencing policy and creating awareness.

5. Internships
The winter-internships begin at RFGI from the 7th of November 2011 and we look forward to welcoming a variety of students from premier institutes from India and abroad.

6. Lawyers for Change
Econet and Center for Social Justice are putting together a programme called 'Lawyers for Change' to prepare and motivate young lawyers to engage in social justice lawyering. Please find attached the brochure of the programme or email leade...@gmail.com for more details. The deadline for the application has already passed but the organisers of the programme have been very kind in allowing extra 2-3 days for applications from RFGI members. You are, therefore, requested to apply as soon as possible.

With Regards,

Team RFGI
