Public Debate on Lokpal Bill - 7th April 6:30 PM at AMA

We are extremely happy to tell you that the talk of Lord Meghnad Desai on ‘Does India need a Revolution to clean its Politics?’ was a big success! People turned out in large numbers to listen to Lord Desai talk on this contentious subject. India does need a revolution, said Lord Desai, but not a one-off revolution, merely resulting in a regime-change but a one that brings about a permanent change in the way Indians perceive governance. He hinted at bringing about a movement like what Mahatma Gandhi was able to bring about.
It is interesting that just a few days after the RFGI talk, India is witnessing an unprecedented citizens’ movement on the issue of implementation of the Jan Lokpal Bill. This Bill, which incorporates ambitious provisions to tackle the issue of corruption needs to be properly understood and necessitates a public debate.
In this light, we at RFGI have organized a public debate on the Lokpal Bill today (Thursday, 7th April) at 6.30 PM at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), IIMA Road, next to Atira. It is an open debate where each participant will have an equal voice and will aim at developing suggestions from the citizens, which will be sent to the relevant government offices, including to those who are lobbying for its implementation in New Delhi.
We understand that this is a short-notice but considering the rapid developments taking place across the country on this issue, it becomes imperative to garner opinions when the issue is being so hotly debated. We sincerely hope to see you all there!
