Can someone please explain what a spider password is for?

It works with spider.php to allow remote indexing of your resources.
It was made for the Google Appliance, which Oxfam use internally, so
that all resources could be indexed.

So they do not use ResourceSpace indexing for search?
Or they are centralizing the search on different systems using Google
search?
