Generally, yes. But I don't recall whether you could tell it just to process videos. 

There is an asynchronous ffmpeg option in config that Neil has committed some recent work toward that may be of interest as well. I'm not that familiar with it. It was considered experimental for a long time but recent efforts may have advanced it.
