I created a page we can keep up-to-date for each meeting, and
populated it with information about the meet on the 25th. Check it
out.

I've updated the next meeting page with details of our plan to meet at
Johnny's place on the 6th of Dec, and Nick's on the 20th. Everyone
should look it over, and let me know if everything looks OK.

First off - Is this OK with you, Johnny???

Second: Wasn't there another meeting since 11/1? If so, could someone please
add a short summary to the Previous Meetings entry on the NM page? Thanks!

Next meeting notes: http://groups.google.com/group/reprap-michigan/web/next-meeting

At the next meeting I hope to begin work on a Mendel. Tim and I have
most of the parts printed that are required to assemble the frame, but
before we do that there is a lot of prep work. We need to solder
electronics, cut threaded rods, cut MDF, plywood and aluminum plates
and build the extruder. I've listed these tasks on the next-meeting
page. I think we can split into teams of two and take on each task.
With those tasks and work on the four machines we have either working
or nearly working we should be pretty busy even if a lot of people
show up.

I do not have any power tools for cutting, so if you can bring
something, please reply with what you will be bringing. Previously I
cut the threaded rod with a hacksaw, which isn't too much work if the
blade is sharp. We also have to cut parts out of plywood and MDF. I
haven't looked yet to see how complicated those parts are. All I have
to cut those are my hacksaw and a handsaw and that is a lot of work.
I have a drill press and a powered hand drill for doing holes. If we
have multiple people cutting at the same I likely will not have enough
clamps.

Otherwise, I have all the tools that I used to build my Darwin except
the tablesaw so we shouldn't need anything else.

I will be hacking in my basement from Dec 28 to Jan 2 either trying to
complete the Mendel or trying to print out all the parts for it.
Anyone is welcome to come over and help those days or work on other
RepRap projects. Just let me know in advance so I know what to expect.

Might I again suggest a meeting at i3 in Royal Oak? There are at least
10 power saws of various flavors and ample space for everyone to work.
Sundays are usually open. Saturdays are open sometimes.

I'd like to meet at i3.  I think the big question is what would it cost.  I have no problem paying $5 as was suggested earlier.

It costs nothing, though donations are always welcome. Shall I put
something on the calendar?

Looks like this weekend I will be here in town, GR. I have to do my rear brakes on my car and I have a bowling league that starts this Sunday at 5:30.

Nick,

If Tim goes then I can send that block with him, otherwise I would be willing to get together next weekend. I could make the drive to Ann Arbor. Saturday is going to be better than Sunday unless we work earlier in the day since bowling is going to be going for me for the next 10 weeks.

The Mendel works alright, my y-axis scale seems to be a little off but I won't be able to tell if the print is getting stretched until I can get a full print done. I am using a new pinch wheel that Tim and I made over the weekend with the standard makerbot PTFE and brass components. This isn't going to work. After 15 minutes I stop extruding, most likely due to heat. I am having to run at 240 C to get hot enough to extrude at speed however that temperature makes the heat sink up the filament and I lose rigidity and the pinch wheel fails. At least this is what I am gathering since I end up with a groove in the plastic and no grip when it dies. I have tried several amounts of pressure too with no luck. So I am going to work hard to find a way to attach Tim's new design. So that's where I am now, it's working but lots to go.

I'm trying to attach a little video of it working to the reprap site.

I've notified the i3 list. Please note, i3 has moved since the
reprapists were last there, I think. The new building rocks.

I'm definately interested, I'm totally new to building a reprap. I
just started to get some parts in and im working on asssembling the
electronics this week. It looks like I'll be needing miscelanious
electronics, like cables and resisters. Does anyone have a suggestion
for a local place that carries those sort of things other than Radio
Shack? Radio Shack is now a mini Best Buy and asked me if I would
like a service plan with my de-solder braid.

If "local" to you is near Livonia, then there is RS electronics:

http://www.rselectronics.com/content/retail.aspx

though, I heard something about their store being closed, so call before
you go.

Also, I'm assuming you weren't at the last meeting at i3 in Ferndale,
and so did not see the electronics "store" there. There is a reasonable
stock of basic componets there. Not a store really in the sense that
there is no one staffing a counter, but send me a message and I'll be
happy to meet you there.

I actually made it out to the i3detroit meeting this last sunday and plan on going to the maker fair this sunday.  I just got the rest of the hardware I need for my mendel so I was  hoping I could stop by i3 and do up the electronics with someone next week.

I'm not to far from livonia so I'll check out that link.

Thanks.

If you need help with the electronics LMK I am close to Livonia as
well (Canton)
I am new to the group as well. I am finished with the build and am now
fine tuning and learning the software end. (No prints yet though)
I am gonna try like heck to make it to the fair on Sunday though....

Just so you know,

You're both very welcome to come to i3 if you want more space and tools
to work with. All you need is a member; i.e. ME, and sign a waiver.

Thanks to Nick I'm closer to making "The Creature" work.

Happy Repping!

Is there anyone out there in between GR and i3 that would be willing
to let me share part of the ride with them? It's pretty damn far for
me to do the whole thing but if there was someone who was willing to
let me meet them and ride the rest of the way I would definitely be
interested.

Would anyone who is going to be at the meeting have a makerbot build
surface? I'd gladly pay for a heated platform, and any other surface
for that matter.

My acrylic surface is rather warped, and causing my rafts not to stick
very well.

We might have some material here at i3 to make you a nice aluminum
