Hi, Rehabbers!  My husband and I are looking to do some exterior repairs and a full paint job to our Drake area home this summer.  It's a two-story stucco and needs stucco repair as well as carpentry work.  We would love some recommendations for or against anyone in the area.  If we could find someone who could do all of that work, that would be great.  However, recommendations for just painters would be fine too.

Thanks!

There are two painters on the Des Moines Rehabbers Club Contractor List currently has two painters listed.

Just a reminder: if you have a good experience with any contractor, please forward a recommendation to the group so that we can grow the list!

The Des Moines Rehabbers Club and RenovateDSM provide these listings as a starting point to help property owners identify contractors and suppliers for their renovation work. In order to appear in these listings, contractors are recommended on the Rehabbers Club email group by prior satisfied customers. However, claims made in user recommendations are not verified.

Thanks,
Steve Wilke-Shapiro

Hi, does any one have recommendations for siding?  I am especially interested in Hardie.  Thanks.  Sue

How old is your structure? What kind of siding does your structure currently have on it? If you are replacing original siding, are you having difficulties with your existing siding or paint?

It is 1969, with masonite siding original.  I am a member of the group because I just love the old homes and the idea of the renovations.  Sue

Hardi plank could be just the thing to solve your siding problem. that masonite siding was not a good product.

We having our 85 year old 1.5 story stucco home painted by Modern Decorators this summer.  He gave us a VERY reasonable bid ($1800).  About $5,000 less than the other bid we got from Petersen Painting!  His number is (515) 418-9184.  Owner's name is Tony.  He lives in Beaverdale.  He's young (probably late 20s) but has been painting for 11 years.  He has 34 reviews on service magic.com and his average rating is 4.8/5.  He does not do stucco repair or carpentry.  We are having our stucco patched by Steve Cunningham.  He is a laid off union plasterer w/ 20 years of experience.  He has done several interor and exterior projects for us and his attention to detail is superb.  His phone number is 515-249-5788.  Hope this helps!
