Riverside County EMS System,

With the implementation of the 2013 Policy Manual many requests are coming to the EMS Agency for a list of changes and/or bound copies of the manual.

The list of changes is addressed by 9104 Changes for 2013 which attempts to cover all of the changes made moving from 2012 to 2013. 9104 is found in the appendix to the Policy Manual.

Unbound print copies of the Policy Manual are available as described in Policy 1201 Fee Schedule.

As you know, the Policy Manual is available at http://remsa.us/policy/. Because our policies are originally formatted as Word documents and saved online in the PDF format, the following is required to access the Policy Manual: internet access and a web browser that handles PDF files itself or works with a "plug-in" PDF reader. A typical desktop computer has many options for web browsers and PDF readers that make accessing the Policy Manual routine. Those who wish to access the Policy Manual from a mobile device, however, will find few options that work well. We have found that these two options may work sufficiently well:

For Apple iPhones/iPads using the Puffin browser provides desktop like access to the Policy Manual.

For Android using any browser to download 9103 Ready to Print to the mobile device, and then using QuickOffice/QuickPDF to read the file from the phone allows use of the bookmarks that have been included in 9103 for this purpose. Maintaining the latest version of 9103 is required and we have included a time stamp on the title page of 9103.

In any case it is important to use the latest version of each policy. To that end both desktop and mobile users may need to clear their browser cache and/or change their browser settings. A good desktop reference on this topic can be found at http://java.com/en/download/help/webcache.xml; or you may have to contact your IT department for instructions.

Additionally, the following "apps" may be useful: http://www.acidremap.com/, http://www.emsassistapp.com/, and http://icon57.com/; among others.

Note that your operating system, web browser, PDF reader, other software or application, and the settings you choose to use are not endorsed by the EMS Agency. It is the end user's responsibility to ensure that they have the latest version of the Policy Manual.

Please feel free to broadly distribute this information and provide feedback on these issues. Thank you.
