As of Dec. 15, 2006, the FCC ordered new band frequencies, so I would
assume that the IRB host software and / or tables will need to be
modified accordingly for all the USA IRB systems. The prime example is
setting the lower end of Extra Class 75 meter Phone band to 3,600 khz.
from 3,750 khz All the details are on the FCC website, the ARRL
website, and several other places.
Stan, is there anything any of the host operators can do or is this
project something which falls on you to do? Clearly, we remote control
operators can listen in the new band segments, but we cannot transmit
there, or at least I have not been able to make any USA IRB transmit in
the new band segments starting at 3,600 khz., for example.

All,
KO6SY is updated with the new band plan.
I am running a full wave long wire on 80 meters and the same wire as a
half wave on 160m. To change between antennas I use a SGC MAC 200 it
needs some RF to sense the band and change settings. If you log on you
will need to key the tuner. If you see high SWR on the panel then give
it a litttle more RF to reach the correct settings. I am only allowing
50 watts RF at this time.

IRB Hosts can change the band plan for SSB in the set up config file
under radio parameters.

I will not change the table in the older software, but will update
the next new version to the new standard frequencies. Until then you
can set it via the config file settings that can override the all
default settings in the code.

The latest version of the software that most are using has parameters
in the user specified config file, so no software changes are
required. A single statement per band is sufficient under the [USER]
section to change these globally and then you change for any specific
user class that does not adhere to the global settings. All this
should be in the documentation. I will eventually get around to this
and be glad to publish my settings, but not sure when!!

FYI my major interest is to get the TS480 front panel remoting
capability integrated into the general software. We have been using
this capability at W7KW since Pete, W6PJ figured it out. It is real
neat to turn a real radio dial, etc and control the remote. Of
course, Kenwood does not (yet) sell the front panel separately!! The
new Icom 7000 has a removable front panel as well as the venerable
IC706. So there is a trend here.!! Incidentally Kenwood does sell a
mobile head (RC-2000) for the TS2000. It has detent type freq tuning
with a very small knob, an arrangement more for repeater ops than for
SSB?CW freq tuning. So it is not suitable for remoting SSB/CW ops??
I will see if I can decode the front panel commanding and status and
see if I can make it control a TS2000 also (except for 2m and
above). But for now, unless you have a TS480 panel, it will not do
you much good. FYI the TS480 is selling for about 900 these days
(delivered) which is a pretty good deal for HF radios!

When I get this done, a new version of the software with the new freq
limits as defaults will be available.

Cheers, Stan

the following should fix existing stuff. Put at the END of the
[USER] stuff or integrate it into it. At the end it will override
existing [USER] settings

[USER]
BAND=80, FLO=3800
BAND=40, FLO=7125
[USER=A]
; US ADVANCED DIFFERENCES
BAND=80, FLO=3700
[USER=G]
; US GENERAL DIFFERENCES
BAND=80, FLO=3800

This can be done by editing config file under the Setup menu and
saving the config. No need to reboot software.

CORRECTION....

Lets try that again

[USER]
BAND=80, FSS=3800
BAND=40, FSS=7125
[USER=A]
; US ADVANCED DIFFERENCES
BAND=80, FSS=3700
[USER=G]
; US GENERAL DIFFERENCES
BAND=80, FSS=3800

Hi All,

I think I've made all of the relevant changes at VK3UR for the recent
changes to the US licensing scheme.

Extra and Advanced Class should now be able to transmit SSB down to
3600 and 7125. In VK most 80m activity centres around 3600 and 7150 so
this should be of particular interest to 80m and 40m users.

General Class should be able to transmit SSB down to 7175 and 21275.

Merry Christmas to all,

davidt - VK3UR
