Subject: Karewa tradition
In some families of hindi speaking states, Punjab and Orissa there is
tradition of doing remarriages to widows with her brother-in-law
without relating to age. That tradition is called as karewa tradition.
Why can't widows be remarried to persons outsides of their husbands
families? Doing remarriages to widows is good practice. Widows should
also have right to marry persons outside of their husbands families.

I read in books that in era of Mouryan kings also there was tradition
of doing remarriage to widow with her brother-in-law. If she do not
have brother-in-law she used to have right to marry other person.

Doing remarriage to widows with persons outside of their husband's
family should be encouraged rather than following karewa tradition. It
is better freedom given to women.
