We would like to welcome you to the English Language School in
Ireland and to Dublin. The School was established in 1979 and
has won a reputation as one of the leading English Language
Schools in Ireland because of the very high standards of our
courses and the friendly care and concern we have for the
people who come to us.

The School has welcomed learners from over 35 countries. Many
students come back to our School several times - the majority
have been referred to us by their friends or family who have
already attended one of our courses - this confirms the high
standard of our programmes.

Our programmes are very carefully designed and we are very
aware that a good knowledge of English is an essential in
today's academic and business world. We encourage you to
practise your English at School, in the shops, with your family
and with students of other nationalities.

Our school is approved by the Irish Department of Education and
is a member School of RELSA, which confirms that courses and
accommodation provided by the School are of the highest
standard and it is your guarantee of quality.

Come to our School and we promise you that you will have a
memorable, worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

IRELAND. A good place to learn English - as well as being a
small country of 4 million people with a pleasant temperate
climate, Ireland is easily accessible from all the major
European cities and is less than one hour by air from London.
Ireland has a wealth of modern literature and its writers such
as W.B. Yeats, Samuel Beckett, George Bernard Shaw, James
Joyce, Oscar Wilde and Sean O'Casey are known all over the
world and have had a great influence on modern literature.

DUBLIN. Dublin is one of the Europe's most beautiful capital
cities. Built around Dublin bay it lies between the sea and the
mountains. The city has some of the finest examples of the
Georgian architecture in the world and yet is a modern city
with excellent shops, restaurants, museums and cultural
attractions. Dublin's size allows easy access to the mountains
and the countryside. Golf, windsurfing and horse-riding are
available and easy to reach.

Our musicians and songwriters such as The Chieftains, The
Dubliners, Van Morrisson, Chris de Burgh, U2 and many other
rock stars have won international acclaim and, during your
stay, you will have the opportunity to see new young aspiring
Irish musicians. You will visit the traditional music pubs and
discos and enjoy the easy, safe, informal night-life of the
Irish.

FIRST DAY & REGISTRATION.

LOCATION: The Adult School is situated in the city centre on
the same street as Dublin Castle and Trinity College. The
School is located in a very attractive period building which is
comfortable, bright and airy. It is easily accessible by public
transport from all the suburban areas of Dublin and is close to
restaurants and the most fashionable shopping streets in
Dublin.

STAFF. Your tutors will be highly trained and motivated
university graduates who will assist and guide you to get the
maximum benefit from your course. Our Director of Studies is
available to give you advice and guidance. The most up-to-date
materials and methodology are used and teaching aids such as
video camera, listening centres and self-study material will
help you to maximise your time in Ireland.

YOUR FIRST DAY. When you arrive on your first day, your
registration will be completed with the help of a member of

us to find your exact level of competence. The Director of
Studies will interview you briefly, then you will be taken to
join your class.

THERE ARE USUALLY AT LEAST SIX LEVELS OF STUDY:
- Beginner
- Elementary
- Pre-Intermediate
- Intermediate
- Upper Intermediate
- Advanced

You will have two different teachers during the morning period.
On your first morning both teachers will talk to you to find
out your own personal objectives of the course. If you have
definite aims (for example an examination or a career
requirement) you should discuss these with your teachers and
they will make sure that your interests are included in the
teaching programme. The Director of Studies will continue to
monitor your progress and will meet your teachers regularly
throughout your stay.

ideas. In addition there are opportunities to discuss matters

The course includes both lecture and workshop sessions and
provides a stimulating forum for the exchange of ideas. The
course syllabus has a language component which includes
language awareness, pronunciation and intonation and a study of
current trends in English vocabulary usage.
The methodology module includes a study of teaching approaches
for learners of different ages, the development of teaching
material and the use of projects and authentic material for

complete a language task in advance of the course which allows
our course designers to include areas of common difficulty in
the training programme.

The evening programme includes visits to traditional music
pubs, theatres, horse and greyhound racing and other
interesting activities.
You can have an exciting and interesting cultural experience
during your time at School.

LIVING WITH AN IRISH FAMILY.

One of the best ways of learning more about Ireland and the
Irish is to live with an Irish family during your stay. Irish
family life is informal, Irish people are welcoming and
talkative - this will give you plenty of opportunities to
practise your English. All our families have been very
carefully chosen - our Accommodation Officer visits and selects
suitable families. Irish families live in the houses with
gardens in pleasant suburbs 20- 25 minutes by bus or train from
a city centre. You will have your breakfast and evening meal
from Monday to Friday with the family and all your meals at the
weekends. The main evening meal in Ireland is between 6 and 7
p.m. - this will allow you to join our evening social
programme. Your host family will treat you as a member of the
family. Many of our students return several times to the same
families and keep in contact over the years.

YOUR FAMILY: When we receive your enrolment form we will have
the information necessary to place you in a suitable family
e.g. no animals, vegetarian, no smoking. You can then contact
your family before you arrive.
We try very hard to match students to a suitable family - if
you are not happy we will move you to another family as soon as
possible.

PAYING THE FAMILY: When making a booking please send the fees
for accommodation and tuition. The School will then arrange
payment to your family.

OTHER ACCOMMODATION: University campus accommodation at Trinity
College and University College Dublin is available during the
months of July and August. The School can also arrange
accommodation in a guesthouse, a hostel or a hotel.

MEDICAL INSURANCE: We advise all clients to take out full
insurance prior to departure. All clients travelling from EU
countries should bring medical form E1.11 with them.

INSURANCE: Students are not insured by School, nor by the
family, against illness, theft or loss of personal effects and
the School accepts no responsibility in the event of such
occurrences. Personal insurance cover is therefore recommended.

SOCIAL AND ACTIVITY PROGRAMME. There is a full sports and
social programme available to all our clients in July and
August. A social programme is arranged throughout the year and
sports are available on request. Tours take place each Saturday
and there is a cover charge for these excursions.

ARRIVAL TRANSFERS: If you have booked an arrival transfer from
the airport, please send the following information at least 14
days before the course begins: Your arrival date, flight number
and full flight details. A member of staff will meet you,
holding a School sign, outside the Customs Hall beside the
Information Desk.

TAXI: If you have not booked a transfer we recommend that adult
clients take a taxi from the airport. The majority of School
host families live approximately 20-25 minutes from the
airport.

VISA: Students attending courses from EU member countries do
not need a Visa to enter Ireland. Students coming from non-EU
countries should check with your nearest Irish Embassy as you
may need a Student Visa to study in Ireland.

JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL takes place in June, July
and August each year at 4 centres in Dublin and a number of
centres outside Dublin.
