All,

Allan Frank, CIO of Philadelphia, finally accepted my Linked In request and replied to my message. He said he'd love to talk about Refresh Philly and left me his contact into!

My thinking is that I should email him and CC / introduce a couple Refresh planners and you guys could get into more detail about what we'd like to talk about. I would recommend we have the topic / agenda pretty solid before we contact him, however, to make it easy for him to plan for.

That's about it for now. We're on the radar :-)

Excellent work!

Do we have any insights into what his pressing issues may be? I have been browsing the government IT sites and nothing jumped out at me.

This was interesting:  http://gcn.com/Blogs/Tech-Blog/2009/04/Government-Tweets.aspx

When I was talking to several people at the happy hour, there seemed to be a lot of interest in creating a Data Catalog like the one Washington DC created @ http://data.octo.dc.gov/

A one stop shop to get Philadelphia's information would be fantastic. DC even created a contest called Apps for Democracy (http://www.appsfordemocracy.org/) where the contestants had to use their data and that ended up with some really cool submissions.  I would love to see that same kind of thing in Philly.

Let's figure out how they got that going in DC and replicate it here.

I know the guy who ran the apps for democracy thing in DC. His name is
Peter Corbett.

Feel free to get in touch with him if you want to get ideas about how
to do something similar in Philly.

I love how many of the apps in http://www.appsfordemocracy.org/
translate online activity to face to face action.

Here is a TED video from Erik Hersman who is presenting Ushahidi, a
GoogleMap mashup that Kenyans used to report and track violence via
cell phone texts:
