Hello,

Could anyone recommend some nice books on either User Experience
design, or on user-focused tech design?
This would be to give as a present, so I'm looking for something
intelligent & insightful -- but also a gorgeous book.

Thanks,
- Daniel

Hi,

This is a book I'd recommend on UCD, that fits your criteria (no dry text books!), informative, well written, also designed to carry around:

Otherwise, you may want to check out books on information visualisation. They tend to be 'gorgeous', e.g.
http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/books_vdqi (the standard gorgeous books)

Regards,

Boon

If it's not for someone who's already a designer this could be good:

Hi,

Book Apart make lovely books, Designing for Emotion might fit the bill.
