Fellow Refreshers,

I'll be moving through to Glasgow soon, and I wondered if anyone knows
of any geek meetups (pub-based or otherwise) that happen over there?
And if not, would anyone be interested?

M.

Having been along to a few of these I can add that they are usually nice
relaxed affairs, with a good amount of talk on subjects like good
practise, object-orientated programming, web design and gaming.

I'll maybe see you along at one soon.

Cheers,
Blair

depends how much you differentiate between hackers and geeks :)
but http://www.electronclub.org/ have a very active mailing list and
meet regularly at CCA for all kinds of tech-related tomfoolery.

Hello all,

I've been signed up to this group for a few months now but I've never actually joined in with any discussions, so I hope you don't mind this mild plug! I actually thought about starting up my own night a few months ago because after research, I couldn't find anything like this in the Glasgow area. I guess I didn't really look hard enough if one has been posted already.

Due to having just started a new job I haven't got very far with my initial idea. If anyone is interested I stuck up a small blog post about it http://www.jackosborne.co.uk/articles/geek-nights/ other than that nothing has been achieved. If other nights are already up and running I'd be more than happy to attend these but if there isn't anything suitable I'd be more than happy to get the ball rolling again and if anyone wanted to help that would be even better.

Cheers,

Jack.

There is also http://macmacdev.com/ who meet in the bloody West End as well...

I actually registered refreshglasgow.org and .com at almost exactly the same time as Matt and John launched Refresh Edinburgh.

I made some poor choices though, forum instead of mailing list mainly, and it never got off the ground. I just followed the Edinburgh group instead but the only time I've made it through was at the Highland Fling.

If your still interested in setting something up, give me a shout. I think there is definitely interest if it gets going.

Worth starting a google group to save clogging the Edinburgh pipes with Glasgow stuff?

Alan

I'm not sure if you've been to TechMeetup in Edinburgh (www.techmeetup.co.uk), mailing list at http://groups.google.com/group/techmeetup?hl=en, the main site is getting redone.

Getting the Glasgow meetup together now, so the first TechMeetup Glasgow will be April 22nd. Still taking in feedback on what sort of definition works best for Glasgow if you have any ideas or advice - TechMeetup has no set scope, just covers a range of tech - in Edinburgh is very software eng and web dev, whereas it looks like Glasgow may be a bit more mobile and media.

Basically, anyone interested in getting a good tech meetup together in Glasgow should come along and help build up something good, it'll there just so we can all meet, watch and talk tech, drink free beer and eat free pizza (sponsors secured already). Ijonas and Heidi are organising it over there and would love any ideas or suggestions on it.

Hey there,

Great to see a lot of chat about a Glasgow meet up. I too had been
searching for one for a while, and heading over to Edinburgh events
instead. Have been in touch with Sam, and now as he says are getting
a Glasgow TechMeetup together for April.

Be great to get in touch with some of the others here who have been
looking at setting up, or are already going along to groups,
especially if you're up for coming along, have suggestions about
who / what you might like to see talking - or indeed would like to
talk.

Either get me here or on Techmeet up group.

Look forward to seeing you hopefully, soon.
Heidi

Cheers for all the Weegie links, guys and girls. It looks like
there's a fair bit going on over in the west, especially the
Techmeetup and Web Centric Meetup group for web nerdery.

It seems there's a gap for a Glasgow web mailing list though, so after
I've tried those two we could take up Jake's offer of setting up
Refresh Glasgow for the banter.
