Subject: Presentation on Canvas
Hey all,

I'm going to be presenting on the new-ish HTML canvas element which
lets you do lots of neat flash-like things all in javascript, DOM and
HTML with the tools you're already used to.

Is there anything in particular you would like to see covered?
Questions you have?

My current thought is that I'll use the development of a pong game as
a motivating example to bring the talk through the major points of how
to do things with canvas. I'd love to hear any feedback on the topic
idea.

-Bill

Bill,
I like the pong game idea; Are you planning to build it from scratch?
Meaning, are you going to put the code together in front of us piece by
piece?  I think that would be a good direction if you are.

I think some items that could/should be touched on are which browsers
currently support canvas and how to force the other to either support (ie6)
or what approach should be taken if there is absolutely zero support.

May some real world site that are using canvas or real world examples.

Thanks Bill, I am getting real excited.

Benjamin

Bill,

Excited about this topic as well. I'd like to see some fun, tech-
demoish examples along with some more practical uses. Also, a
discussion on where Canvas fits in alongside flash and similar
technologies. What's the future look like?

yup; follow development at http://github.com/llimllib/refresh-canvas/tree/master
if you want :)

That's my idea.

I don't actually have any real world experience *deploying* canvas, so
that will be difficult for me to speak on definitively. I will
research it, however.

hmmm... since both you and Lokesh are looking for this I'll try and
finish with a gallery of existing apps.

> Also, a discussion on where Canvas fits in alongside flash and similar technologies. What's the future look like?

My current proto-outline looks like:

1) Introduce canvas. What is it? (5 minutes)
2) Flyover of building a small app (30 minutes)
3) Demo existing sites, talk about where it's going (10 minutes)

How's that sound?

Thanks, and thank Ben for prodding me to get on my horse.
