Software & Web Application Developer
Purpose Statement
Develop and maintain desktop and web-based applications, provide
skilled analysis to determine software hardware solutions, support
technology infrastructure for the organization, and lead technology-
based initiatives to support academic and research at the Cockrell
School of Engineering
Essential Functions
Write and design code for web and desktop-based applications in
languages such as PHP, Adobe Flash/Flex/Air, Java, JSP. Provide,
manage, and communicate technology strategy and architecture
recommendations. Develop web-based mathematical programs. Test and
recommend new software/media technologies. Perform in-depth
requirement studies. Site testing for cross platform, cross browser.
User interface and QA testing. Research technologies and approaches to
improve productivity.
Required Qualifications
· Solid understanding of and experience in object-oriented design
and implementation in languages such as ActionScript 3, Java, PHP,
Python, especially with the Adobe Flash platform (Flash/Flex/Air).
· Experience with application architecture / design patterns.
· Experience with PHP/MySQL frameworks, especially CMS’s (Drupal,
Joomla, Wordpress).
· Solid understanding of UI technologies such as AJAX, JavaScript,
XHTML, CSS and the DOM.
· Solid understanding of Data services integration: XML, JSON,
SOAP, etc.
· Solid understanding of browser compatibility and accessibility
standards.
· Solid knowledge of General IT Systems and networking.
· Adept at problem solving. Strong verbal communication and
interpersonal skills for team / client interaction.
· Comfortable in both PC & Mac environment.
· Experience with implementing and using version control systems
(GIT/SVN/Bazaar)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree. Three years of experience in systems design,
analysis and programming. (Equivalent combination of relevant
education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.)
Preferred Qualifications
Background in logic and mathematics. Comfort with graphics programs
Photoshop, etc. IIS and MS SQL administration knowledge a plus.
