Hi All,

My Project Requirement is to create a Master Project and the child
projects that are controlled by the Master project.

I designed the project as:

1.Create the Master Project(say A)
2.Create Blank Child Project(say B)

I implemented the sharing as:

1. sharing the content class folders of Project A to Project B(without
sharing the asset folders)
2. creating the content class folders in Project B and setting the
external folder for these content class folders as the corresponding
folders in project A.
3. Recreating all the pages in project B manually.(without importing
from project A)

Till this point everything worked fine.

But when I reset the navigation index for this project, the whole
navigation structure is getting disturbed. All but a few second level
pages(homepage being the only one first level page) started appearing
in the level 1(at the same level where the homepage is).

In the Master Project(Project A), the navigation works perfectly all
right even if i reindex the pages.

Both the projects have the same structure, same pages and same
settings.

I have tried clearing the navigation cache and removing and doing
again the master page settings. nothing worked for me.

I am not sure what is the cause of the problem.

Is it the content class sharing or is there any other setting that is
missing.

Any Ideas will be appreciated

Thank You.
Regards,
Komal

You will more than likely have to go into navaigation manager and
reorder them all manually, My experiance with resetting teh navigation
is that it basically works in teh same way a scatter bomb does, it
just destroys all and any structure you have. I never use it and its
one of the first things I tell people I work with that are new to
reddot.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your time :)

Infact I did the same thing. Reordering the navigation manually, and
it worked.

Then I created one more project(Dummy one) and did the same thing
again, that is reindexing the pages and setting them manually but it
didnt work and I did this activity 2-3 times and sometimes it worked
and sometimes it didnt. So I was not sure if this will be a reliable
solution to this problem or can there be anything better.

Infact for the project where it was not working, the navigation order
list (lst_navigation) was completely empty. and also I was getting a
blank page on previewing the pages(the same pages that were not
appearing in the navigation).

Actually I need to create about 10 child projects so I dont want to
take any risks.

Can you figure out anything based on this problems of mine.

Regards,
Komal

Hi Tony,

Are you suggesting not using Navigation Manager at all? We've got a
problem which on the surface is not dissimilar to Komal's.

Andy

No not at all, navigation manger is essential in the production of a
large web solution. I am however saying that resetting the navigation
index is the equivalent to releasing gremlins into the system and as
such should not be used. Even looking at it can cause problems, I
generally have a piece of black tape on my monitor to hide it from
view.
