anyone know how to unlock phones?

Trying to unlock my Samsung Gravity 3, and Tmobile is giving me a shitstorm even though my phone's been with them for over 2 years, since I switched to prepaid 2 weeks ago, and and now meet none of the requirements for them to give me the unlock code.

Couldn't find a solution online. Just tried some code combinations from here and there, and now my phone won't even recognize a non-tmobile SIM. It says "phone freeze SIM unavailable contact service provider".

So I'm just all sorts of frustrated. Any advice on how to fix all of this?
