Anyone feel up to a 32-mile walk around the island of Manhattan?

It's called The Great Saunter:
http://shorewalkers.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=77&Itemid=136

Basically, it's a 10-12 hour, 32-mile walk around Manhattan proper.
Registration (with race numbers and such) is $20. It's a normal 3mi/hr
pace, but 12 hours of that is going to ensure that you feel it so it
looks like a pretty good workout too. It's happening come Saturday,
May 5th, 7am-7pm.

Any interest amongst Redditors? It'd be nice to have a little group
going. :)

Oh, and obviously there's going to a Survivor's Drinkup afterwards.

I'm interested.  Why am I interested in walking for 10~12 hours, and pay 20 dollars to do it, I have no idea.

So, uh, are there going to be guards there to break my shins if I show up to walk without the $20?

Yeah, I'm thinking about strolling around next to you guys with a drink in my hand.

Done this before (by myself).

It will beat the hell out of your feet, so be prepared for that. Its an awesome walk and you get to see things in Manhattan you didn't know existed.

I'd be interested, but can't confirm for a little while yet.

I longboard this path (an approximation of it) once a month. If any of you guys are steady on your feet, I've got an extra board for my next time out

Hell yes to the walk! Hell no to paying! Why don't we just, as a group, walk for nothing!

Because money tends to make you commit to a source of action.  Stupid, but true.  Plus, if it goes to a good cause, I'm willing to give away 20 dollars to guilt all of you into walking for 10 hours with me.

Wait, I didn't mean to say that last part.

I'm okay with this, though I have plans that day. Maybe we should walk this in three-hour sections or something.

So is this still planned to happen?

The Great Saunter is still happening on Saturday, and walk-ons are welcome, but there's still a reg fee.

For review, it's $20, starts at 0700 (there's a late reg further down the route at 0930), and you have to bring a printed form to participate.

As for a reddit-only equivalent... when are we doing this? Quick, someone pick a day! I'd say non-holiday weekends, and no griping - not every interested person is going to be able to participate on *any* day.

I'll give it a shot. I'm still on the fence about paying $20 to walk next to you.

How about May 19th - it's a Saturday, and it's a few weeks away where everybody could have some notice. If that's not enough notice, we could push it back an extra week or two. I'd rather go on a day that's not a major drinking day, like Cinco de Mayo.

Two proposals:
Not memorial day, but not too late. In the spirit or irony, I'm going to say that the weekend of the 19th doesn't work for me; how about the first weekend in June? So, June 2 with a rain date of June 9, and we can determine Thursday May 31 whether the weather looks acceptable.

Second, we steal the other group's schedule and map, so 7 am to 7 pm with a bar of our choice at the end.

Thoughts? It'll still cost money (for lunch, snacks, gatorade, etc) but it won't be $20 just for the privilege of my company.
