Well ladies and gents.. what a quick 3 weeks it has been. Pulling 2 - 40
hour weeks freelancing in the AV/IT Department at Credit Suisse, many
interviews... and here is the result so far:

I AM HEAD OF THE AV/IT DEPARTMENT AT THE NEW YORK MUSEUM OF SEX!!!!!!!!!!!

I start fucking Monday!!!!!! SHAPOOWWWW!

Oh...

And I have an interview with fucking MEETUP.COM regarding Sys Admin Support
on Thursday!!!!!!! With luck on my side, I will be working with Meetup.com
by the middle of August!!!

It wasn't even a job I applied for at Meetup.com. Apparently HR was handed
my resume by a rather impressed hiring manager.


The hunt continues still though, I want to get as many job offers in the
pipe as I can.

Resumes & Applications Sent Count: 1,197 (in 3 weeks)
And counting....

3 Hours of sleep, F5 on many many job networks (including Craigslist) a night until I found a job. My goal is at least 3 interviews a week till a major offer is made.

 

I only sent resumes to the google group only like... 3 times. The 3rd was the actual one I was sending out. Thing has been revised to near perfection

 

Also, I handed 300 resumes to actual people in bars, parties, and simply walking into production houses downtown. I am not fucking around.

I actually have renewed faith in finding a job in this city. There are in fact jobs to be acquired, you just need to stay extremely vigilant in your quest to attain one. Utilizing everyone you know, even old employers you might not necessarily like. Stay optimistic.

 

I am by no means out of the woods yet. These next months are going to be nothing but bringing my A game, knowing when to shut the fuck up, and constantly looking over my shoulder.

Chris, What aspect of your comprehensive assault on the job market would you say has been your most effective? Actually handing out resumes, online posts, craigslist, something else?

I would say networking with past and present friends/coworkers and hitting Craigslist. Monster, CareerBuilder are fucking jokes. You need to hit channels with the least amount of job seeking traffic. The person who hired me said my cover letter was absolutely the reason why my resume stood out.

My subject line was as follows:

**insert job listing here** - CHRISTOPHER MORINI HIGHLY EXPERIENCED APPLICANT - PROF REFERENCES.

It's all about getting them to open it up.

I also requested read receipts on every email I sent... Web if they deleted it without opening it I would still be notified. Needless to say responses were few, but the emails I sent gia Craigslist had a higher chance of receiving a response.

I received nothing from monster or career builder. Every corporate website I applied to early on the first day, within a week I had an interview at Bose & Enterprise.

You need to also fight the paranoia that you won't find a job because nobody is responding. As long as you are looking, you will find something. I sent my first 200 on a Friday/Saturday. Then needed to tell myself that it was the weekend and I'd expec anything I sent to be opened on next Wednesday or Thursday. I operated on the premise that I was always a week behind or from a call back or response.

(Also literally giving someone a resume in their hands, my card, and  firm handshake assured me "hey, at least they have to open it to check what it is before they throw it away.")

Though this proved wrong when the museum responded within 25 minutes of sending out a resume for a job I found on Craigslist.

I got the Meetup interview because I got rejected 4 times, then LITERALLY WENT INTO THE OFFICE and said "I applied, I got automatically rejected, I want to work here and I believe I deserve a closer look.

The following Monday I had an interview scheduled for 2 hours from now Thursday July 28th.

1 job offer. 3 interviews. 1 confirmed rejection.

Offer: Museum of Sex (awesome)

Interview today: Meetup.com

Rejected: Enterprise

Waiting: Bose

1,193 awaiting some form of response. 

It's only been 3 weeks. I am receiving unemployment, and have had a freelance gig worth 106 hours that ends tomorrow (for now)

No I didn't file unemployment on the days I worked and earned more than 405. That would he highly illegal
