What Trike should I get?

Hello all;

I recently became very interested in Recumbent Trikes. Online I've
been checking out what I can find pics and specs of - and hopefully
put together a trike I can afford.

The main question is Where can you ride these things? - I live on Long
Island NY - The area I live now has lots of highways and traffic (not
great for riding) when I used to live futher east on LI I used to do a
lot more cycling.

The trikes look like they might be seen by cars on the road - which
looks to me like they might be dangerous........

Hopefully those of you that ride trikes will comment on this - do you
think its safer then riding a bike on roads with cars ? (or other)
