Holiday party in my office today - no booze in the house which makes it easier to enjoy the festivities. However, at my 7am 'Living Sober' meeting today we discussed the chapter on "Being Wary of Drinking Occasions" - very appropriate for the holiday seasons. The usual suggestions of avoiding situations where alcohol will be present, especially in early sobriety, is highly recommended. Of course we also try to avoid old people, places, and things we associate with drinking.
The best reminders I heard today came in the form of "silly" one-liners .. this is why we don't hang around situations where booze is served (we may ultimately end up drinking):
* If you hang around the barber shop long enough, eventually you will get a haircut.
* We don't go to the whore house to listen to the piano player (same holds true for not going to a bar to listen to a band or just to socialize with friends while sipping soda).
First significant snow expected this weekend here in NJ!!!!
