There is a difference between recovery and sobriety. Carrying the principles into all my affairs, keeping a conscious contact with a Higher Power, and living in recovery is much more powerful than simply struggling to avoid a drink in sobriety. Recovery is what I do - it's who I am. My addictive personality used to get me in trouble- but today I am addicted to AA (and amazingly enough I haven't been arrested since I got sober)! Unfortunately we see so many folks desiring a new way of living without the booze come into the rooms but never get actively involved with commitments or with helping others - they tend to fail. Of course, this is a very general statement and just a personal observation based on what it's been like for me. The folks who have what I want go out speaking to other groups regularly and have sponsees and are always at meetings sharing their experience, strength, and hope.

Anyway, lots of group holiday parties and alkathons coming up - a good opportunity to be IN recovery and not just AROUND the rooms. Recovery is not a spectator sport - if ya win it ya gotta get in the game :)
