Dining chair construction
Over the holidays I went to a friend's house for dinner who had some dining chairs quite similar to these, albeit a little different (did not have the vertical "slats" between the lower part of the legs, and the legs rotated / splayed out from top to bottom): [link] Anyway, I'd been looking to either buy or make new dining chairs for a... more »

Poker Tips
It's great to see a group of people that is so passionate about poker! Playing poker is fun but losing is really sucks especially if you lose so much money. I believe there's a science to winning poker games and knowing those science will increase the odds of winning. I've got a blog about my experiences with poker over the years, and I hope that... more »

OT: Bedbugs
From research, they're pretty much everywhere again after the falsified data resulted in the ban on DDT. But the little bastids is here. In my house. Looks like the cost of treatment and replacing one bed set, and sealing two more is going to run between $1500 and $2000. The exterminator guy (Orkin) who came to for the inspection today said... more »

Tormek jigs on a Bench Grinder
I have a Tormek, and I found that re-shaping a HSS gouge is a PITA. Tormek recently announced a package (BGM-100) that lets you use your Tormek jigs on a bench grinder. It's just an additional jig bar and holder. Here's the tip - if you buy one before January 15, you can get a free additional horizontal base, so you can use the jig bar on both wheels.... more »

Table Saws and Electric Garage Door Opener
Many of you know I have been planning my garage workshop. One thing that has occurred to me recently is the possible conflict in the existence of a table saw and my electric garage door opener. I have a 9' ceiling, the motor for the door (Chamberlain 1/2 hp), is just about in the center of the... more »

Router bits for experimenting
I would like to purchase a set of fairly decent but cheap router bits to play around with and determine what I will really want to keep in my stock on a more frequent basis. I do have some I play with from Rockler and Woodcraft and some I will continue to use which are the better grades such as Freud and Whiteside which I can pick up locally. Therefore, can someone... more »

Switch Cover Plate
I ordered a new switch and cover plate for one of my Unisaws. I was sent 2 cover plates. Anyone need a new cover plate? Free plus postage. Also, I still have a 3 phase Unisaw motor, if anyone wants/needs that, too. Push button switch and about 15' of wiring included. Free plus postage. Sonny

spraying shellac (Ping Nailshooter)
I'm hoping this starts a really good thread on spraying. What has your experience shown you to be the best cut of shellac combined with tip size when HVLP spraying? I Understand there are many other factors, but I'm trying to narrow these down first. I've heard/read that success varies widely with trying to spray shellac, but given the workpiece... more »

Desiccants?
I'm wondering what, if any, desiccants people use around their tools and in their tool boxes and stuff like that. Sure, it's prudent to oil or wax tools, but a desiccant should also help. Any suggestions for a desiccant natural or otherwise?
