First off, I doubt they would work because both lacquer and shellac
are solvent-based and water colors are water-based. Try artist's
oil colors instead if you simply _must_ stain wood.

Second, the kids' water colors are really cheap pigments, another
strike against them. For tinting water-based finishes, use good,
expensive artist's water color from tubes.

Hello,
Will water color paints work with padding lacquer or shellac? Not the
water color paints that come in tubes, but the little round solid pieces of
paint that come in a tray like I used in elementary school.
Thanks,
Charlie

Are you using the water colours for touch in and repairs ? If so I cannot
see why not. I have used water soluble felt tip pens for the same purpose
without any problems, but you have to be careful that you do not wipe it off
while padding

What is padding - is it a mouse as in French polish ?

Regards

Greg
