Where would I find information on techniques for preparing wood items (to
be painted with acrylics), and finishing. I am particularly interested in
what types of glazes to use, and how to apply those that would not
conflict with decorative painting motifs.

: Try "Decorative Artists Workbook" magazine. It deals with this type of
: stuff all the time.

The work book sounds good to me 8-) my neighbor paints on 4X8
plywood sheets priming with any primer compatable and painting with house
paints, on smaller cut outs she buys at markets she sprays a primer then
uses acrylics, with poly on top. I refinish furniture and use Rustoleum,
then paint with acrylics then poly on top 8-) Mostly if in doubt I will
use the primer, acrylic and then a poly on a sample and see if it crazes
8-( and once I find a combination that won't ,that's what I use from then
on 8-) Fred

Geez, Fred, from your description, your furniture must be for outdoor use
only.
